Maltings Park is named after the neighbouring Grade II listed Moorland Maltings building, an impressive six-storey brick structure constructed in Victorian times on East Tyndall Street, Splott. The park itself lies on land previously occupied by waggon works.

It was opened in 1993 by Sir Geoffrey Inkin, the man who oversaw the transformation of Cardiff’s derelict docklands into the Cardiff Bay development. The sculpture was designed by Avtarjeet Dhanjal.
Maltings Park was extensively refurbished in 2022/3 and facilities updated to include a skatepark and multi-use games area and relandscaped. During the refurbishment parts of the sulpture work has been repositioned. Dhanjal is a British sculptor and a multi-media artist of Indian origin whose work has been shown internationally for over four decades.

The etched stone sculpture has also been repositioned. On the front of the stone facing the street are the words: ‘I walk on this beautiful Earth looking looking wondering being amazed only course left for me is to go all the way’. On the reverse is an etching of a mother and her two young children.
